About Us
Woodbrooke is Europe's only Quaker Study Centre. It is based in the former family home of the local chocolate maker, George Cadbury, himself a Quaker, and has, since 1903, provided education for those of any faith or none from around the world. Education has always been based around exploring Quakerism and the themes of interest to Quakers, such as Peace and Reconciliation, Quaker History and Spiritual Journeys. Today Woodbrooke also welcomes many visitors wishing to use our facilities for their meetings and conferences.
Woodbrooke makes every effort to function ethically and without harming the planet. Quakers believe that everyone may have a direct experience of God and that there is 'that of God in everyone'. Friends emphasise expressing our faith through our lives rather than through attachment to festivals and creeds. To learn more you can visit some of the Quaker sites on our links page.
Woodbrooke Quaker Study Centre provides education for the Quaker community and seeks to offer warm and efficient hospitality to other groups and individuals. We hope those who stay experience a relaxed and welcoming environment, which reflects the Quaker commitment to openness and respect for all. As well as aiming to provide a high standard of service to guests, Woodbrooke is also concerned with sustainability and makes a conscious effort to limit its impact on the environment.
